Descanso Restaurant Announces New Menu Items and February Events

Modern Taqueria Presents New Flavors and Experiences Featuring Tequila Tasting Dinner and Valentine’s Day Menu for Two

Descanso Restaurant, Costa Mesa’s modern taqueria known for authentic Central Mexican street-inspired cuisine and handcrafted cocktails, has announced new menu items launching Thursday, February 7 as well as special events for the month of February including a Tequila Dinner on Thursday, February 1 and a special Valentine’s Day Dinner on Wednesday, February 14.

“We aim to transport our guests to Mexico through authentic cuisine, a lively atmosphere and genuine hospitality, and we’re excited to showcase new flavors and share special experiences with our guests this February and throughout the year,” said Rob Arellano, Owner of Descanso. 

Executive Chef Jose Angulo presents new sharable small plates, entrées and desserts highlighting fresh, high-quality ingredients. Start with Striped Bass Ceviche made with leche de tigre, pomegranate, avocado, red onion, fresno chile, lemon and lime; or try the Endive Salad with seasonal ingredients including radicchio, blue cheese crumbles, pistachio brittle and a fig vinaigrette. Succulent new entrees include Enchiladas de Langosta filled with lobster meat, Descanso’s signature ‘Tres Quesos’ cheese blend, topped with Mexican cream, suiza sauce, and mango habanero sauce, served alongside flavorful Mexican fried rice and refried pinto beans; and Pork Belly Tacos featuring pork belly braised in Mexican Coca-Cola, himalayan salt, garlic and herbs, deep fried and served in a blue corn tortilla and topped with chipotle peach syrup, avocado toreado salsa and red cabbage marinated in lemon vinaigrette. Dine “a la Plancha” to experience the new Sea Bass entree paired with grilled asparagus and seasonal vegetables topped with fried beets and lemon beurre blanc. Weekend Brunch welcomes Steak & Eggs to the menu featuring 8 oz hanger steak served with two eggs, bacon, serrano potatoes and avocado. End the perfect meal on a sweet note with Arroz Con Leche Cheesecake – a cheesecake Mexican rice pudding sweetened with cinnamon, served with strawberries and caramel cajeta sauce.

In February Descanso will host two special events. Start the month with a Tequila Dinner on Thursday, February 1 featuring a five-course menu of land and sea expertly paired with five of Herradura’s finest tequila. Guests will learn about the different varietals while enjoying a creative and lively coursed menu cooked tableside “a la plancha”, featuring thoughtfully crafted dishes to complement the complex flavors in each tequila. On Valentine’s Day, February 14, Descanso will transform its main dining room into a romantic atmosphere complete with live music to accompany Executive Chef Jose Angulo’s multi-course “Sharing Menu for Two”. The sumptuous menu, priced at $95 for two people includes two complimentary glasses of champagne, a starter course of Corn Poblano Soup with Mexican sweet corn, poblano pepper, Anaheim chiles, sour cream, garlic, onion, white rice and a smoky morita chile powder. The starter will also include an Arugula Red Beet Salad featuring baby arugula, lemon oregano dressing, queso fresco, red onion, cooked red beets and watermelon radish. The main event of the lavish meal is La Tablita de Dos, featuring a 10 oz. ribeye steak, 8 oz. main lobster tail, four jumbo shrimp with garlic morita chile butter, nopal asado chiles, cebollitas toreados (blistered onions), white rice, refried pinto beans and corn tortillas. To finish off the intimate dinner is a slice of Arroz Con Leche Cheesecake. Pair the special menu with Descanso’s signature Valentine’s Day cocktail or opt for a tequila flight featuring a curated selection of three premium tequilas. Descanso’s regular dining and Plancha Room menu will also be available for guests throughout the evening. Seating will be limited for the special “Sharing Menu for Two”, and reservations are highly recommended. Walk-ins will be accommodated based on availability.
