Santa Ana’s East End Artwalk Gains Momentum 

The East End Artwalk highlights innovative artists, lively entertainers, and a growing fashion presence on Saturday, February 1.

The thriving artistic community and diverse cultural background of Santa Ana is celebrated once again during the February installment of The East End Artwalk. The monthly event continues to gain momentum, attracting boutique businesses, niche eateries, artists, and musicians to participate in the vibrant event. The artwalk serves as an extension of the traditional “first Saturday” artwalk, spanning 3rd and 5th streets, and Bush and French streets in the heart of historic Downtown Santa Ana. Brooklyn Harper, Tarte Vintage, and Laila Lupe encourage free spirits to speak through style amidst live music, food trucks, and pop up art shows.

Brooklyn Harper, located at 210 East 4th St, Unit A, is throwing a sidewalk celebration with the heart of a block party. The urban-chic boutique gathered local artisans, vintage traders and jewelers for a bash that spills out of the store an onto the corner 4th and Bush streets. DJ Bianca G keeps the energy high with her upbeat sounds while guests look over various sale items perfect for Valentine’s gifts. Food trucks including Ninjas With Appetite, Dogzilla, and Long Board Ice Cream will be on hand for the for the festivities which last from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Local events crew d.u.m.B Company lights up Plaza Santa Ana with live music at the corner of 4th and French Streets. The group prides themselves on “bringing quality to live sound” and presents a handful of artists that include Asleep at the Gate, The Heathens, The Moan and more. The show kicks off at 5 p.m. and additionally features crafts, vendor booths, and a live spray-can art wall.

Tarte Vintage, located at 206 East 4th St Unit B, brings nostalgic flavor to the East End fashion scene. Keeping in line with the store’s flair for the 90’s, Tarte Vintage will host a Simpsons themed art show featuring over 20 artists. Live music, drinks, snacks, and sales will culminate into one of the liveliest gatherings of February’s artwalk.

Newcomer clothing line Laila Lupe invites artwalk guests to check out their 2013 Fall/Winter fashion line while getting a sneak peek at the 2014 Spring/Summer line. The preview takes place at 305 E. 4th St and highlights the brand’s edgy clothing through this interactive event. Makeup artist Annie Le will be on hand, prepping guests before trying on original garments and posing for photographers (photos will be posted on the Laila Lupe facebook page). Live entertainment from Brit Rodriguez adds to the atmosphere, accented with complimentary sangria, prizes for the first twenty guests to make a purchase, and the presence of Shangrila Jewelry Boutique.

The Vapor Lair aims to deliver another exciting evening of competitive gaming. Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on Xbox 360 will be the main attraction, with free food for contestants, a live DJ throughout the night, and prize money coupled with Vapor Lair prizes awarded to the winner. The tournament will be held inside the Vapor Lair at 210 E 4th St, Unit B.

Lowski Jones x Stoop Down Limited present Champagne Wishes & Caviar Dreams in the alley adjacent from the Yost Theater. The pop up art sale embodies the heart of the artwalk, featuring work from a variety of artists and live DJs. The live music flows over to Charlie’s Tattoo Supply & Piercing located at 316 East 4th St from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.  Bespoke Cut & Sew will be offering live tailoring on-site as well.

The East End Artwalk is building a reputation for artistic exposure that draws locals and travelers alike. The artwalk continues to highlight up and coming creative minds of the community, and in turn growing an event that’s quickly becoming an integral part of Orange County’s art scene.
