Summer of Mud Promises the Best Course Yet
[Silverado, Calif.] – On Sunday, July 17, 2011, the Irvine Lake Mud Run returns to Oak Canyon Park. Southern California’s most scenic and challenging mud run is a 3.8-mile off road course traversing trails, and hills, starting and finishing at picturesque Irvine Lake. The Mud Run features professionally built obstacles including jump walls, ramps, crawl tubes, and more mud pits than any mud run in the World. For the first time this July, the course has been enhanced with a mud luge and a number of water drenching experiences to beat the summer heat.
Gates open at 6:30 a.m. and the first wave begins at 8 a.m. with multiple waves in individual and team categories starting throughout the day. Runners are encouraged to register online in advance and arrive at least one hour prior to start time. Registration for individuals is $59, $196 for teams of 4, $220 for open teams through July 16. Sign ups may be available on event day pending availability as the event frequently sells out. Runners must be 13 years of age or older and in good health. Kids ages 2 – 12 can participate in the Gavin’s Mud Puddles Kid’s Course. Over 30 showers and several “fire hoses” will be available for runners to rinse off, and a clean change of clothes is encouraged. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 men and women runners in the individual races by age group and the top 3 teams in each category.
Irvine Lake Mud Run sponsors Wahoo’s and KROQ will be onsite at the Action Sports & Eco Fair featuring many other companies with the latest sports and eco-friendly products. Michelob Ultra and other brews will be poured in the Summer of Mud Beer Garden (with valid I.D.) and live music will provide entertainment throughout the day.
Annually the Irvine Lake Mud Run benefits the Gavin R. Stevens Foundation supporting Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis (LCA) research. LCA is an inherited retinal disease characterized by severe loss of vision at birth. Named after two-year-old Gavin Stevens who has been blind since birth, the foundation aims to raise awareness and research funding so that the roughly 3,000 individuals with LCA in the United States may one day receive treatment. “Gavin’s Groupies” will run on July 17 in bright orange to show support.
