Summer Race Introduces More Obstacles and the Return of Dirty Dodgeball

On Saturday, June 22, 2013, the Irvine Lake Mud Run returns to Irvine Lake at Oak Canyon Park for the anticipated annual Summer of Mud race. Southern California’s most challenging and dynamic mud run is a 5k off road course traversing trails, hills, luges, and muddy obstacles. The 2013 Summer of Mud race will mark the return of Dirty Dodgeball, a game of agility and elimination, leaving one team declared the winner.

Irvine Lake Mud Run’s Spring Break at the Lake race in April brought out over 7,000 runners to Irvine Lake. The Summer of Mud event anticipates being another packed race with more mud than ever before. The Mud Run will feature professionally built obstacles including jump walls, ramps, crawl tubes, luge slides, mud pits and a number of water drenching experiences to beat the summer heat.

The Dirty Dodgeball competition will challenge participants in teams of 6-9 players in a muddy game of down and dirty fun! Check-in begins at 11:30 a.m. followed by the first round of elimination starting at noon. Gather your friends and get muddy with dodgeball madness. After two 5-minute halves the team with the most players remaining will be declared the winner.

On June 22 the parking lot will open at 6:30 a.m. and the first wave begins at 9 a.m. with multiple waves of individual and team categories starting throughout the day. Runners are encouraged to register online in advance and arrive at least one hour prior to start time. Registration for individuals is $69 per person through June 20. Runners must be 13 years of age or older and in good health. Kids ages 2 – 12 can participate in the Mud Puddles Kid’s Course. Over 30 showers and several “fire hoses” will be available for runners to rinse off, and a clean change of clothes is encouraged.

Irvine Lake Mud Run sponsors Wahoo’s Fish Taco, Hustler Casino and the World Famous KROQ will be onsite at the Action Sports & Eco Fair featuring vendors with the latest sports and eco-friendly products.  Michelob Ultra will be flowing in the Summer of Mud Beer Garden (with valid I.D.) and live music will provide entertainment throughout the day.

The 2013 Summer of Mud race is benefitting the Susan G. Komen Orange County Chapter. The organization is committed to the vision of a world without breast cancer. Through their philanthropic efforts Susan G. Komen serves women and saves lives by dedicating funds in support of medical needs, services and research to find a cure.
