WHAT
Santa Monica Place invites visitors and shoppers to celebrate the traditions of Lunar New Year and welcome the Year of the Snake with a free, family-friendly celebration on Saturday, February 8 from 2 – 5 p.m., hosted by comedian Paul “PK” Kim. During the event, attendees can pick up a Lunar New Year craft kit for children and enjoy cultural performances and art under a canopy of red and gold lanterns, symbolizing good fortune for the year ahead.
This year’s celebration comes to life with traditional Chinese lion dances by Bruce Wen and The Shaolin Entertainment Group, mesmerizing balloon artistry and intricate demonstrations by Chinese dough artist Chris Lee. Guests will also have the unique opportunity to receive Lunar New Year blessings written by calligraphy artist Emmy Lam, as a special takeaway provided in partnership with Din Tai Fung to celebrate its highly anticipated opening at Santa Monica Place soon. Children can explore the Kids Craft Area, while live music performances add to the festive atmosphere. Guests will also receive red envelopes containing exclusive offers and promotions from participating retailers and restaurants and can visit santamonicaplace.com/savings to learn more (password: SAVINGS). Meanwhile, visitors are invited to hang their hopes for a prosperous and joyful year ahead on the cherry blossom Wishing Trees in Center Plaza.
The widely popular Din Tai Fung will soon bring its legendary dumplings and authentic Taiwanese cuisine to Santa Monica Place. The only Din Tai Fung location with ocean views offers the perfect destination to continue Lunar New Year’s festive spirit and culinary traditions.
The cherry blossom Wishing Trees, lantern displays and red envelope promotions will be available from January 29 to February 13.
